Overview

Yap Seng Bak Kut Teh, nestled in the heart of Iskandar Puteri, Johor, offers an authentic taste of traditional Malaysian bak kut teh that speaks to both locals and visitors seeking genuine flavors. Located at 17G, Jalan Bestari 4/2, this unpretentious restaurant invites diners into a modest yet modern space that balances comfort with efficiency, making it a welcoming spot for a casual meal.

The restaurant’s standout feature is undoubtedly its bak kut teh, presented in two distinct styles: a rich, herbal soup and an intensely flavorful dry version. Both highlight the quality of the pork ribs and meat, which are consistently fresh and tender. The dry bak kut teh offers a compelling twist, with a bold sauce that carries a smoky, caramelized note, enriching every bite. It’s a dish that perfectly marries depth with balance, ideal for those who crave complexity yet crave the comfort of classic Malaysian fare.

Complementing the main dishes are thoughtfully prepared sides such as braised tofu, enoki mushrooms, and crispy oily vegetables, which provide refreshing contrasts in texture and flavor. The hongba set, a signature offering, combines various braised elements into a wholesome experience reflective of traditional Chinese-Malay cuisine. These accompaniments elevate the meal beyond mere sustenance into a well-rounded culinary moment.

Yap Seng’s atmosphere is straightforward, channeling a kopitiam spirit while delivering modern amenities including air conditioning, which enhances the dining experience during Johor’s humid days. Service is prompt and attentive, though language barriers might surface occasionally, as the menu is primarily in Chinese and English explanations can be limited. Still, the staff are friendly and strive to assist, adding to the approachable charm of the establishment.

For those new to bak kut teh or seasoned enthusiasts, Yap Seng Bak Kut Teh serves as an authentic refuge. It caters to diners seeking rich, herbal soups that warm both body and soul as well as bold, aromatic dry-style ribs that delight the palate. Its location in Iskandar Puteri makes it an excellent choice for local food lovers and travelers exploring Johor’s culinary scene. Whether enjoyed solo, in pairs, or with family, the restaurant’s offerings provide a satisfying, homey experience worth returning for.

Came quite early at their opening time (9 am), so it was empty and there was no wait. 1) The food arrived within 10–15 minutes. 2) The Bak Kut Teh soup was very good. But not the best that I have had. 3) Prices were very reasonable, around 60RM for two pax. 4) The only tricky part was the menu. It wasn’t in English, and apparently you have to mix and match the meat with the soup, but this wasn’t clearly stated. 5) The staff didn’t speak much English either, so explaining was a bit difficult. 6) Another thing was the cut chillies weren’t fresh and looked a little old. That said, the food itself was really good. Overall, a decent experience with excellent soup.

Yap Seng Bak Kut Teh stands out for its incredibly flavourful dry bak kut teh, a version that takes the familiar herbal comfort of the soup and condenses it into something bold, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. The sauce clings beautifully to the tender pork, with just the right balance of soy, spice, and heat — a smoky, caramelised edge that makes every bite memorable. It’s the kind of dish that pairs perfectly with rice and leaves you reaching for more long after the plate looks empty. Beyond the standout dry version, the place keeps things simple and unpretentious — classic kopitiam vibes, quick service, and food that speaks for itself. You won’t find fancy plating or frills here, just honest, well-executed cooking that’s clearly perfected over time. Definitely worth a visit if you love bak kut teh done with character and punch.

Came here cos was looking for Bak Kut Teh near Aeon Bukit Indah. Saw some good reviews at this place. So came to try. Their soup is herb base. Soup is thick and tasty. Meat is also cooked well. Will be back.

If you're looking for genuine, high-quality Bak Kut Teh, Yap Cheng Bakuteh is an absolute must-visit. My experience here was truly satisfying, proving they offer the kind of deep, comforting flavors you'd expect from the dish's birthplace. The star of the show is undeniably the soup. It is wonderfully thick and rich, but it hits the perfect balance. It carries a pleasant, subtle hint of herbal flavor that adds complexity without being heavy or overpowering. It’s the kind of soup you crave—complex, authentic, and utterly delicious. I couldn't get enough of it! Equally impressive is the quality of the main ingredients. The baku (pork ribs) and meat were incredibly fresh and tender, making every bite easy and enjoyable. There was no struggle with tough meat; just clean, fresh flavor that showcased the quality of their sourcing. To complement the rich soup, their fried vegetable side—the lettuce—was excellent. It provided a perfect, crisp counterpoint to the savory Bak Kut Teh. Beyond the food, the dining experience is elevated by the modern and air-conditioned space, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a hot meal. The service is also excellent; the waitresses are fast-responding and helpful, ensuring a smooth and pleasant visit from start to finish. Overall, this is a truly authentic Bak Kut Teh experience, just like the best you find in Klang. Highly recommended for a satisfying, authentic meal!

Very nice bkt. Soup is very fragrant, very strong herbal taste. We ordered the small bone and also the rib. Small bone was very tender. Rice has added fried garlic which makes it nice too. Will come again.

I had the dry version with pork ribs. The ribs are tender enough. It's not too salty. The soup is more towards herbalish and quite rich. I went 10am on a Saturday and the seving was fast.
